Tudor Homes

Notes

  • The Tudors built many thousands of new homes.
  • They were built with timber frames that were fixed together by wooden pegs. The spaces were filled with clay or bricks.
  • Burghley House in Northamptionshire is a typical Tudor House built on the grand design! It was built for William Cecil in 1589.
  • Tudor houses were more comfortable than previous houses.
  • Tudor houses had chimneys instead of holes in the roof to let the smoke out. This made the rooms warmer, less smoky and stopped the thatched roof from catching fire.
  • You can spot a Tudor house from the wooden frames like the one in the picture above.
