Notes

  • English play writer and poet.
  • He is considered one of the greatest English writers of all time.
  • He was born in Stratford-on-Avon.
  • He married Anne Hathawy in 1582.
  • By 1592 Shakespeare was an actor and writer in London where he was an important member of the Lord Chamberlain's Company of actors.
  • In 1598 the Company pulled down 'The Theatre' and rebuilt it as the Globe.
  • In 1603 the Company became the King's Men.
  • He wrote a great many plays. Some of his most famous are: Hamlet, Othello and McBeth , these are all tragedies because they have sad endings.
  • He wrote comedies like A Midsomer Night's Dream, As you like it and Twelfth Night.
  • He retired to Stratford in 1610 and died there in 1616.
