- Anne of Cleves was a German princess.
- Thomas
Cromwell arranged for Henry VIII
to marry her.
- The marriage was arranged to make an
alliance with German Protestants )people who were opposed to the
Holy Roman Empire of the Catholic Church).
- Henry had never met Anne before they
were due to marry. The paintings of her that Henry had seen made
her look attractive.
- When Henry saw her he thought she was
ugly.
- He married her in 1540 to make links
with England and Germany better.
- The marriage only lasted 6 months after
which they divorced.
- Cromwell was executed mainly as a result
of arranging this marriage.
